About the Role
We are looking for a Software Engineer (Research) with a PhD in Computer Science or a closely related field to join our Engineering / Applied Research team. This full-time role is available in [City / Remote / Hybrid] and is focused on bridging rigorous academic research with real-world engineering. You will be responsible for designing, building, and delivering advanced software systems that are founded on novel research concepts. The ideal candidate will leverage their research expertise and technical skills to create scalable, reliable, and impactful products.
What You'll Do
- Design and develop complex algorithms and software systems, taking projects from initial prototypes to robust production implementations
- Conduct applied research and translate theoretical findings into practical product features
- Evaluate and validate new approaches using experiments, benchmarking, and comprehensive data analysis
- Write high-quality, tested, and maintainable code, and actively participate in code reviews
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product, data, and engineering, to inform architecture and technical decisions
- Share your work through presentations and publications at conferences or internal forums
- Mentor and support junior engineers, contributing to the development of technical strategy
Key Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end design, implementation, and optimization of advanced algorithms and systems
- Lead applied research initiatives and ensure successful translation of research outcomes to production-grade software
- Drive evaluation processes, including experimental design, benchmarking, and data-driven analysis of new technologies
- Foster collaboration with product and engineering teams to influence architectural and strategic decisions
- Represent the team through publications or presentations in academic and professional settings
- Guide and mentor less experienced engineers, actively shaping the technical roadmap
Requirements
- PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Machine Learning, or a closely related discipline
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, Java, Go, or Rust
- Deep understanding of data structures, algorithms, and systems design principles
- Demonstrated research output through publications, patents, or significant research projects
- Proven experience developing software beyond academic prototypes, preferably in a production environment
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
Nice to Have
- Experience with machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow
- Familiarity with distributed systems design and implementation
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure
- Understanding and practice of CI/CD methodologies
- Contributions to open-source projects
- Postdoctoral or prior industry research experience
- Experience processing large-scale datasets
